Discord Vanity URLs: How Custom Invite Links Work

A vanity URL, which Discord now calls a Custom Invite Link, swaps a random invite code for a name you choose, like discord.gg/yourname. It does not expire while your server keeps it, and it is far easier to put on a stream overlay, a website, or a business card.

Who can get one

Your server needs Boost Level 3, which takes 14 boosts; Verified and Partnered servers get the perk without them. Then open Server Settings → Boost Perks, scroll to Custom Invite Link, type the name, and save.

Naming rules

Up to 25 characters, using lowercase letters, numbers, and dashes. Links are not case sensitive, so discord.gg/MyServer and discord.gg/myserver are the same link. Discord holds some names back, such as its own brands, and can take a link away over abuse or an intellectual property claim.

Checking a name first

Discord’s support team cannot tell you whether a name is free, and the settings screen only answers once your server has the perk. The Discord Vanity URL Checker asks Discord’s public invite lookup whether any server answers to a name, so you can plan before you boost.

Keep one text channel public

A Custom Invite Link lets anyone who has it join your server. It only works while at least one text channel is visible to @everyone; hide them all and the link shows as invalid.

Losing your boosts

If the server drops below the boosts it needs, Discord removes the link after 30 days, and someone else can then claim the name. To put the link on printed material, the QR Code Generator turns it into a scannable code.

FAQ

How many boosts does a Discord vanity URL need?+

14, which is Boost Level 3. Each Nitro subscription includes two boosts to put on any server.

Can two servers share a vanity URL?+

No. Each name points to exactly one server, which is why short and popular names go fast.
