Drawn at 598px, the width X really uses for the desktop timeline, and scaled down only if your screen is narrower. The font is a stand-in for X's Chirp, so a line break that sits right on the edge may land one word either side.

FAQ

X post previewer FAQ

Why does my post look different after posting?+

X's compose box uses a roomier layout than a published post. Once it is live, a post renders at 15px with a 20px line height inside a 598px column on desktop (or the full width of a phone), with links shortened. This previewer draws the post at those real widths, so awkward line breaks and cut-off links show up here before they show up on your profile.

What is the difference between the Timeline and Post page views?+

Timeline is how followers see your post in their feed: avatar on the left, a short age like "2h" next to your handle, and 15px text. Post page is the view someone gets when they open the post itself: larger 17px text, your name stacked over your handle, and the full time and date under the post.

How does X count characters?+

X uses weighted counting, not a raw character count. Every link counts as exactly 23 characters however long it really is, because X wraps links in its t.co shortener. That includes bare domains like dgden.com, but only when the ending is a real top-level domain, so Node.js or index.html stay plain text. Emoji count as 2 each, including flags and multi-person sequences. Everything else counts 1 for Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, Hebrew, Arabic and other scripts up to U+10FF plus common punctuation, and 2 for everything beyond that, such as Chinese, Japanese, Korean, arrows and most symbols.

What happens if I go over 280?+

A standard account cannot post more than 280 weighted characters. X Premium accounts can post much longer text, but the timeline cuts long posts off with a "Show more" link, so the first 280 characters still decide what most people read.

Does this post to X?+

No. This is a preview tool only. Nothing is sent anywhere and there is no login. Everything you type stays in your browser, so you can safely draft and check a post before copying the text into X yourself.

Is the font exactly the same as X?+

It is a close approximation. X uses its own Chirp typeface, which cannot be embedded here, so the preview falls back to your system font. Sizes, line heights, column widths, colors and layout match a published post, but individual letters can be a hair wider or narrower, so treat a line break that sits right on the edge as a maybe.

Is it free?+

Yes, completely free with no account, no limits and no watermark. Like the rest of the Digital Den tools, it runs entirely in your browser.
